    The Columbia MSBA curriculum, lasting three semesters, is a STEM program that typically takes one year to complete. It's a partnership between Columbia Business School's Decision, Risk, and Operations (DRO) and Marketing divisions.

    Students begin in the Fall and can graduate by the following August or extend to the next Fall with a summer internship. They must complete 12 three-credit courses (36 credits) in different areas.

    • a minimum of 18 credits (typically 6 courses) within Columbia Engineering, the IEOR Department
    • a minimum of 12 credits (typically 4-6 courses) within the Columbia Business School, see the listing of historically approved Business School courses

    The Personal Statement gives you a chance to share your past experiences and how they've shaped your personal and professional growth. It's an opportunity to show the admission committee what unique qualities and commitment you can bring to the department and the Columbia Engineering community. We suggest your Statement be 250 to 1,000 words long, but going beyond this won't affect your application negatively. 

    Here are some suggested topics you might want to cover in your Statement:

    • Describe how your background has prepared you to pursue an advanced degree in the field of engineering or applied science at Columbia University.
    • Describe the reasons you are interested in this program and discuss any relevant experience.
    • If you have relevant work or research experience, please indicate how it helped you decide on your career path.
    • What are your post-graduation plans or career goals?
    • What do you hope to gain from this program?
    • What about this program excites you?
    • If any special circumstances need to be brought to the attention of the Admission Committee, please include that information.

    Please adhere to the following format guidelines for your Statement:

    • All margins should be at least one inch, and the left and right margins should be equal.
    • The text should be double-spaced.
    • The preferred fonts are 10-point Arial or 12-point Times New Roman; however, any legible serif or sans-serif standard font may be used. Do not use script or ornamental fonts.

    Interview Questions

    The Video Interview is a required part of the Master of Science application process. It becomes available after submitting your application and paying the fee. You'll find the interview link in your application Status Portal.
