When to take rescore of GRE?

When going for GRE, you get an option of rescoring four times. This means you can get four score reports. You can send your GRE scores to four different schools of your choice for free. Decide your top four schools before giving the GRE. This will help not to waste your score report on schools that you are not interested in. If you aim to send your scores to more than four schools, you will have to pay an extra fee.

The students should not request rescoring if they feel that the test went well. As receiving a new score is very rare, the students are advised not to request a score review if they think their scores are less than their expectations. Students should ask for rescoring only if the students feel that the score is unusually incorrect, which means in cases like no marks at all is given for what you have written.

          FAQs

Some frequently asked questions and answers are:

  1. Will there be negative scoring if I give incorrect answers or leave questions unanswered?
  • Reduction of marks in case of incorrect answers or unanswered questions.
  1. Should both GRE and GMAT be given?
  • Some institutes which have said not to accept GMAT score for that GRE should be given. Otherwise, the GMAT is an accepted exam in schools usually. You can do GRE to GMAT conversion or vice-versa. You can give both GRE and GMAT and convert your scores to the above chart to better assess your personality. This step will help schools abroad to assess you well.
  1. Will I be able to give GRE or GMAT again if I do not score well on the first attempt?
  • Rescoring is allowed for both GRE and GMAT. You can give these exams five times a year. You get these chances to improve your scores if you prepare well and give the exam well. The validity of both the GRE score and GMAT score is for five years.
  1. Is there any option to view my scores after I give my exam?
  • After completing the exam, candidates will get two options; to report their score or cancel their scores. If the candidate chooses Report Scores, the students will have a chance to view their Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning scores, but they will not be the final score. The students cannot see their Analytical Writing essay score as it requires specialized evaluators and has a lengthy evaluation process. The scores, if viewed, will be a part of your report history. If the students select Cancel Scores’ option, scores will not be visible to them, and schools cannot view the scores or consider them in the report history. Be very careful while making this choice—select options based on your performance in the exam. You will then receive your final and official scores on your ETS official account after 10-15 days from your exam day.
