The University of Illinois, Gies College of Business, Master of Science in Finance (MSF) degree prepares students holistically for the dynamic world of finance. The MSF degree is STEM-designated, which may permit international students to stay in the US for up to 36 months on the Optional Practical Training STEM extension.

Program and Curriculum
The MSF program has an innovative three-semester curriculum that presents students with a strong foundation in finance principles and practices. Students can also choose from a wide array of electives in other spheres of finance, such as commercial banking, real estate, financial engineering or wealth management. Moreover, the optional full-semester practicum project will enable you to work on real-world projects for both national and international companies to gain hands-on experience. The MSF program begins each year in August and is delivered in three semesters (fall, spring, fall)

Students in the MSF program come from varied backgrounds. Even though most students in the program have a business-related undergraduate degree, the program also draws students with undergraduate degrees in areas such as engineering, math, physics, and computer science. The Department of Finance hosts an elite faculty with eight chairs or named professorships.
