 UT Austin MSBA Overview

McCombs’ Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) is a 10-month program designed to equip students with skills to harness vast amounts of data and use it to inform business decision-making. Students in the Business Analytics program can expect preparation to leverage statistical analysis, natural language processing, data mining, optimization, and machine learning to address business management issues in marketing, finance, and supply chain management. Program and Curriculum

The MSBA curriculum is designed to allow students to complete their 36 credit hours and receive their STEM-eligible MSBA degree in just 10 months. The coursework is made up of three main components: Foundation – to ensure proficiency in technical skills; Application – Going a step beyond theory; and Demonstration – real world experience.

The curriculum pathway options, include tracks in Financial analytics and Supply Chain and Marketing Analytics.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree in a quantitative field from an accredited institution
  • University coursework or professional experience in computer programming is required; knowledge of C, C++ or Java (with focus on object-oriented programming) is preferred. Those admitted to the program are strongly encouraged to learn Python prior to beginning the program. Coursework in in Linear Algebra and Statistics is strongly recommended.
  • Coursework in Linear Algebra and Statistics is strongly recommended for a competitive application
  • Strong communication skills and motivation
  • Upper-division GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • No work experience required, though students with work, leadership, and/or professional development experience are encouraged to apply

The application fee is $65 for domestic applicants and $90 for international applicants.

Application Essays 

Imagine that you are at a job interview after completing the MSBA. Give a one- to two-minute argument for why you are the best person to hire. Begin with a description of the job that that you are applying for and then use your undergraduate training, your MSBA experience, and any relevant work experience you have to justify your hiring. (the video essay is required – recommended video length is 90 seconds – 2 minutes).
