Program Introduction

Schulich MMgt Essay 2: Sample Answer

During college, I was heavily involved in the Student Government Association (SGA), where I served as President during my senior year. In this role, I led a team of student representatives and oversaw various initiatives aimed at improving campus life.

One of the major projects I led as SGA President was implementing a campus-wide recycling program. I recognised the importance of sustainability and environmental stewardship within our community and saw an opportunity to make a tangible impact. However, I faced several challenges, including securing funding, gaining support from faculty and administration, and motivating student volunteers.

I organised meetings with key stakeholders to address these challenges to garner support for the initiative. I also worked closely with the campus facilities management team to develop a comprehensive plan for implementing the recycling program. Additionally, I launched a recruitment campaign to enlist student volunteers and organised training sessions to educate them about the importance of recycling and proper waste management.

Through my leadership and dedication, we successfully launched the recycling program, which reduced our campus's environmental footprint and fostered a greater sense of community engagement and responsibility among students. The program continues to thrive today, serving as a lasting legacy of my leadership tenure.

Reflecting on this experience, I learned valuable lessons about effective communication, collaboration, and problem-solving. I discovered the importance of perseverance in the face of challenges and the power of collective action in achieving meaningful change. My time as SGA President has equipped me with invaluable leadership skills that I am eager to apply academically and professionally in my future endeavours.

Schulich MMgt Essay 3: Sample Answer

In considering my application, I believe it's important to provide context on a particular aspect of my academic history that may raise questions for the admissions committee. During my sophomore year of college, I experienced a significant family hardship that fully impacted my ability to engage in my coursework. My father was diagnosed with a serious illness, and as the eldest child, I assumed a primary caregiving role within my family.

As a result of this circumstance, I found myself balancing the demands of caregiving responsibilities with my academic pursuits, which inevitably impacted my grades during that semester. While I maintained a strong work ethic and commitment to my studies, I struggled to juggle the competing priorities of family and academics during this challenging time.

However, I want to emphasise that this experience was a test of resilience and an opportunity for personal growth. Through navigating this difficult period, I developed invaluable skills in time management, problem-solving, and emotional resilience. I learned to prioritise effectively, communicate openly with professors about my circumstances, and seek out support resources on campus to help me manage my responsibilities.

Despite my challenges, I remained dedicated to my academic and personal development. I'm proud to say that I emerged from this experience with renewed determination and purpose. I'm confident that the lessons I've learned and the strength I've gained will serve me well as I pursue my MBA and beyond.

I wanted to share this aspect of my academic history with the admissions committee to provide context and transparency and to underscore my commitment to overcoming obstacles and achieving success in the face of adversity. I'm grateful for the opportunity to share my story and look forward to the possibility of contributing to the vibrant academic community at Schulich.
