To get a work permit visa for Australia, the eligibility criteria is to have studied any one degree in Australia—

III. Doctoral (PhD).
Whereas in Canada, the eligibility criteria is much longer—I. Students must have studied for at least 8 months from a designated learning institution (DLI).
II. Students should have a proof of being qualified and are eligible for the degree of the course they were enrolled in.
III. Students must have maintained a full time status.
IV. Graduated from one of the following—
a. A public post-secondary school, such as a college, trade/technical school or CEGEP.
b. A private post secondary school in Quebec that operates under the same rules.
c. A private post secondary school in Quebec that offers qualifying programs of 900 hours or longer.
The duration of the two countries depends on the duration of the degree course work. In Australia, the duration of work permit is according to the years of the study. Students with a Bachelors degree can have 2 years of permit and a student with Masters degree will be liable to get a permit of 2 years. If he has one year of research work then he is liable to get 3 years of permit.
In Canada, the post-study work permit can never be more than the course length that you have applied to. For instance, if a student is enrolled in a course for 12 months then the work permit can be issued for 12 months only not more than that
